WHAT an excellent article by Arabella Youens detailing Nancy Lancaster’s influence on English country-house style (‘Perfectly English’, April 5). A few years ago, on an Edinburgh Decorative and Fine Arts Society visit to Kelmarsh Hall, Northamptonshire, the knowledgeable guide told us that Lancaster (above) had three requirements for stylish living: candles, mirrors and flowers. I was amused to see that the elegant drawing room adorning the front cover of COUNTRY LIFE had all three. Her legacy lives on. Fiona Campbell, Peebles
