Get picky about your pork

-

Britain’s pig-welfare standards are undoubtedly among the world’s highest and the Rare Breeds Survival Trust is calling for shoppers to question the provenance of pork and to buy British, following the news that most native breeds are declining (Town & Country, April

12). ‘Breeders must have a market for their produce; we need more people to buy native-breed pork and to make sure it’s the real thing,’ says chief executive officer Tom Beeston. ‘When someone has tasted genuine pedigree pork, you get comments such as “it tastes like pork used to taste”. We need more shoppers asking their butchers to make sure they’re getting pedigree native-breed meat.’
