What lies beneath
DOVER HARBOUR BOARD can’t have taken into consideration the possible consequences of its proposed actions (‘Let sleeping ships lie’, May 10). To attempt to dredge Goodwin Sands shows little forethought or respect for the sea and what lies beneath. Some years ago, shingle was dredged up from Start Bay, Devon. During future storms, this resulted in the destruction of villages, including Hallsands, and can still produce serious problems in the bay following bad weather. Jean Grossart, Devon
