Champagne with Christo

THE excellent article on picnics (June 7) brought to mind some of my favourites, with COUNTRY LIFE’S Christopher Lloyd (above) and his dachshunds, seated by the Horse Pond at Great Dixter, East Sussex. Of course, the garden was open to the public, who used to wander past and stare while we enjoyed Champagne, olives, cafetières of coffee and his favourite Bendicks chocolates.
