LESLIE GEDDES-BROWN opines that ‘smug’ scientists ‘should just shut up about their possible findings’ (Spectator, June 21). Scientists rarely impose their findings on the public—i would suggest that it is journalists who alarm and confuse readers with their interpretations of scientific findings. Dr Dinicolantonio’s hypothesis that restricting sodium intake may not reduce the risk of hypertension and that low-sodium diets could adversely affect health, doesn’t reflect a scientific consensus and the Government continues to recommend limiting salt intake.
