The posters (assuming there were any) for the first Northern Antique Dealers Fair would have competed with those announcing the film of A Streetcar Named Desire, for which Vivien Leigh won her second Oscar. Sotheby’s sale of the actress’s property last month (following the death of her daughter in 2015) was an outstanding success and one of the major buyers there, Haynes Fine Art of London & the Cotswolds, is taking a second stand at Harrogate to display its purchases in a room set as if at one of Leigh and Olivier’s homes. Haynes secured furniture, candlesticks and furnishings as well as paintings, notably the 18in by 15in Les Anemones (Fig 6) by Louis Valtat (1869–1952), who worked with Toulouse-lautrec and Renoir. There is also a charming Regency rosewood games table (right) with suitably artistic lyre supports. Many of the items come with letters from Leigh.
