Of hogs and hounds

IN response to the letter from Lady Mcalpine (August 30), I wanted to let you know about my lovely old golden retriever, Sapper, who used to bring a hedgehog in most evenings. The hedgehog was always unharmed and it was me who had to put on gardening gloves and take it back outside. Dear old Sapper lived to be 17, was never vaccinated, survived being run over by the vicar and was fed on scraps of meat and bones from the family butcher.
