Mademoiselle Suzanne Lenglen

-

Suzanne (1899–1938), only daughter of Monsieur and Madame Charles Lenglen, was a French tennis player and one of the sport’s biggest stars in the 1920s. She ranked first in the world from 1921–26, winning eight Grand Slam singles titles and 21 in total. Suzanne made her Wimbledon debut in 1919, when she triumphed in the final against British defending champion Dorothea Lambert Chambers. The match set the record for the most games (44) in a Wimbledon women’s singles final, a feat surpassed only once, in the 1970 final (46 games) between Margaret Court and Billie Jean King.
