BEDROOMS AND BATHROOMS
IN A BEDROOM, IT IS VITAL to have storage that is attractive and softer for a prettier look. A run of fitted wardrobes is ideal if you have space. Wire-fronted cupboards backed with fabric add colour or pattern, while a relatively inexpensive way to conceal hanging clothes is to use a pole hung with floor-to-ceiling material, which can be drawn apart for access.
Alternatively, freestanding wardrobes, cupboards and armoires are a stylish option. Think carefully about the most effective configuration inside, according to how your clothes are organised –and what ratio of shelves to hanging storage you will require. Baskets and boxes can help to subdivide a larger area effectively so you are able to sort and order items. A divan bed base with storage is a good idea for keeping anything that you don’t need to access regularly. Creating a built-in bed affords even more space, with potential for drawers or cupboards for bedding and linens or toys and clothing.
Bathrooms tend to have a limited floor area, so wall storage in the form of cupboards, shelves and hooks is an ideal solution. If you have more room, a freestanding cupboard can hold linens, towels and bathroom accessories. A chest of drawers could also serve this purpose, or consider a counter-top sink so you can store everything in a cabinet beneath or use curtaining to conceal clutter. An old Victorian or Edwardian washstand can be converted for this purpose.
