GET BACK IN THE SADDLE
Created in the early 19th century, the ‘dandy horse’ was the first humanpowered vehicle to incorporate two inline wheels. By the latter part of the 1800s, the popularity of high bicycles such as the penny farthing established cycling as a sport to be enjoyed by everyone. Bike week – taking place on 10-18 june – promotes the social, health and environmental benefits of taking to two wheels by hosting a number of events up and down the country. From organising a cycle to work day to taking part in the national cycle challenge, there are lots of ways to get involved. visit bikeweek.org.uk to find out more.
