Embroidered flower panels

A hand-stitched flower design can be used as a panel to decorate a cushion or tote bag. Use coloured cloth for a bright, striking look. First wash the linen thoroughly to remove the starch and soften its texture, then iron. Draw a simple silhouette freehand onto it before stretching it taut over an embroidery hoop and sewing with satin and stem stitches. Alternatively, use stencils or stamps to print shapes onto the fabric.
