Cercis canadensis ‘Forest Pansy’ A multi-stemmed tree with heart-shaped purple leaves that turn yellow, orange and scarlet. Wonderful when backlit. Height 10m eventually.

Euonymus alatus ‘Compactus’ Also known as the burning bush, and for good reason as its leaves turn a spectacula­r shade of crimson. Grows to about 2m.

Hydrangea paniculata ‘Limelight’ Emerging lime-green flowers turn gradually through ivory to deep pink. Very pretty and fast growing. Height 2.5m.

Acer palmatum ‘Osakazuki’ Bright-green lobed leaves turn brilliant scarlet and usually last well. Prefers a sheltered spot. Height 4m.

Malus x zumi ‘Golden Hornet’ This lovely crab apple bears masses of small goldenyell­ow fruit and its foliage turns yellow, too. Height 10m.
