MEET THE COUNTRY LIVING ARTISANS
We’re proud to support small producers. Here are just a few of the creative, committed and accomplished makers you could meet at our summer events
Hannah Wisdom
Working from her studio in Devon, Hannah Wisdom creates textile art by sewing recycled fabrics onto old sea charts. Her pieces, inspired by local wildlife, culture and heritage, include limited-edition giclée prints, cushions, tea towels and notebooks. hannahwisdomtextiles.com
Lather & Smudge
Based on the edge of the Cairngorms in Killiecrankie, Julie Godfrey set up her business two years ago, producing cold-compress artisan soaps. She pours natural ingredients into wooden moulds and ‘cures’ them for up to six weeks to make creamy, fragrant soaps including lemon Grove, Herb Garden and geranium. latherandsmudge.com
Shiv Textiles
Textile artist Shiv Martin is passionate about ‘craft with a conscience’, upcycling waste products, yarns and offcuts from British mills and factories to create blankets, cushions and scarves. Unable to host weaving workshops this year, she has developed a home-weaving kit to enable anyone to have a go at home. Her craft kits are suitable for all levels. shivtextiles.co.uk
The Carved Angel
The Carved Angel team have produced british artisan foods from their plymouth base since 1974. Their homemade traditional Christmas pudding is one of the top sellers at our Christmas events, but their jams, curds, biscuits and condiments are just as enticing year-round. Their mixed hampers make great gifts. thecarvedangel.com
South London Letterpress
Karen Silcock runs this business by herself from her home in Balham, designing and printing correspondence cards and stationery using a traditional adana letterpress and lead ink. Her ‘Miss You’ correspondence cards have been a bestseller this year, alongside notecards in a host of designs. Karen also creates bespoke cards, gift sets, pencil pots and card boxes. southlondonletterpress.co.uk
Coulson Macleod
This small Northamptonshire-based studio designs and produces gifts, stationery and cards. During lockdown, its correspondence cards proved very popular. Recent additions include ‘Gardening Goals’ cards to keep gardeners on top of their latest projects. coulsonmacleod.com
