…and some of yours!

We asked for your favourite country parks on Facebook – and (as ever) you didn’t disappoint…

Tilgate Forest,

Crawley. It’s about a mile around the lake but there are lots of other paths and tracks through the woods. My husband and I have made many of our life decisions on walks around that lake! Sarah Byrne

Marbury Country Park,

Cheshire. Short walks to the mere, longer walks through the woods to the canal – kingfishers, bittern and veggie sausage rolls in the café. Chrissy Crofty

Alvaston Park,

Derby. It’s only small, but it sets me up for the stresses of work time and time again. Sometimes it’s the sight of sun rising over the lake, other times it may be the mist shrouding the playing fields. In spring, the sound of that first chiffchaff. A good way to start the day! Richard Crooks

Sandwell Valley Country Park,

Birmingham. Wedged between the M5, M6 & West Bromwich, it has lakes, a ruined monastery, a Victorian farm, the River Tame, an RSPB reserve and miles of paths to walk. An oasis of calm in a hectic world. Richard Harris

Wirral Country Park,

Thurstaston, Cheshire. A lovely green space between the Dee estuary and the Wirral Way. Lovely views of Wales from the cliffs. I was taken there by my parents many times as a child – they went there when they were courting. Stephen Coyle

Apedale Country Park,

Staffordshire. I have a sentimental attachment to it. The park has been reclaimed from the land that employed hundreds of men who mined coal. It was on this site that over 100 colliers were lost in the Minnie Pit disaster in 1918 – amongst them were two of my great-uncles. Stephanie Jones
