Snowdon, Gwynedd

-

It might sound a big leap to go from a starter mountain to the highest peak in all of Wales (one that’s taller than anything in England too). But Snowdon is Everybody’s Mountain, and whatever your age or ability, there’s a route for you. That’s especially true for adventurous souls, who can forsake the gentle trudge of the Llanberis Path and instead take on the rocky wonders of the Pyg Track, or the history-soaked Miners’ Track which climbs up through 200 years of mountain industry. There’s the Watkin Path, hidden away round the side of the mountain, or the Rhyd Ddu Path, which exposes its pyramidal southern aspect. And one day, when your scale of adventure has reached Jeff Lowe proportions, you might even feel tempted by Crib Goch – the razor-sharp, 2000ft-high ridge that is simply one of the most thrilling mountain routes in Britain. That’s the magic of Snowdon: however you define adventure, you will find it on this mountain. (Did we also mention there’s a café on the top?)
