Corrour Station House, Rannoch Moor, Highland*
Alone in the empty expanse of Rannoch Moor you’ll find Corrour, Scotland’s highest railway station (1350ft) and also its most remote. Its station house is now a café with home-made food and a roaring fire, and there’s even B&B at the former signal box. And if you start your walk one stop south you can combine two wild eateries in one 11-mile route, with coffee and cake at Rannoch Station Tearoom to fuel you across the mountain-ringed moor.
