JACK WOLFSKIN
ACS Hike 32
RRP: £80 Target price: £68 More than a match for the big boys in its technical flair, the ACS Hike 32 is a nicely balanced, all-rounder for a good price; up there with the rucksack specialists in terms of design and reliability. Jack Wolfskin have fitted out this daypack with luxuries other brands often don’t bother lavishing upon a smaller pack, like the stow-away bottle pouch and an extra access point to the bottom of the pack (a zip-in divider inside lets you separate soggy layers at the bottom). Admittedly, wet kit wasn’t a problem for me when I tested it during a very dry and balmy June, and the pack’s rain cover stayed stowed away. But the rucksack’s other big plus point – the suspended mesh back system (‘Air Control System’) – was very welcome, allowing cool air to circulate. The padded harness, if a little too ‘puffy’ for my liking, was simple to fit and comfortable to wear, while the two sets of compression straps kept everything stable. It may not be the best of the bunch, but for £80, I think you get a great rucksack.
