Invasion beach
Hayburn Wyke in North Yorks was a good choice for one of the Secret 7 beaches last issue. It’s also interesting for its secret part in the Cold War, after it was selected by a Russian spy in 1970 as an invasion point for a sabotage force in the event of hostilities. Possibly this unlikely spot offered the shortest way to the RAF Early Warning Station at Fylingdales. Any invaders would have struggled with the steep climb out though! Tony Carroll, Sutton
