Even the tough bits are stunning
Ed Terry, Mountain Leader and West Highland Way guide for Thistle Trekking
My favourite section is probably the toughest, and that’s from Rowardennan to Inverarnan. It takes you all along the loch shore of Lomond, you’re scrambling up and down, and it’s very challenging but very rewarding. You get great views across the loch to The Cobbler and the rest of the Arrochar Alps mountain range, and an amazing view back down the loch. Look out for feral goats along the way, too. But from the feedback I get from the people I guide, the section from Kingshouse to Kinlochleven tends to inspire them the most. You get a fantastic view through Glen Coe, climb the Devil’s Staircase, walk past the hydro-electric station, and then rejoin civilisation at Kinlochleven.”
