AS GOOD A BIKE’S W

-

The new Montera shoes from Italian bootmakers Aku (£125)( is aimed at walkerswalke who worry about the stability of theirthe feet and ankles. Its sole unit was developed with rubber wizards Michelin,M resulting in sticky tractiont that grips stony surfaces beautifully (‘like( like a bike’sbike s wheel’, say Aku, not unreasonably). But more impressive is how it controls the roll of the foot: special attention has been paid to the issues of pronation and supination (more about them next issue), and it is very, very difficult to roll the ankle too far inward or outward while wearing them.t They aren’t the lightest or nimblest shoes, and they’re quite narrow through the toe (which may be a good thing for you), but the stylish wear-anywhere looks and reliable Gore-Tex membrane make it a really attractive package.
