Hinterland partly exists to showcase the Welsh language to other cultures. Although each scene is filmed in both Welsh and English, even the English version includes many exchanges in Welsh, reflecting the dual culture of this part of the world.

“BBC Wales was also keen to see Welsh spoken more widely on the mainstream channels. So Hinterland delivered to both of those concepts.”
