THE DEVIL’S ARSE, Peak District

So called because of the flatulent noises emanating from this cave when flood water is draining away, it was renamed Peak Cavern in 1880 so as not to offend Queen Victoria when she attended a concert here. Still known to locals by its old name, it’s the largest of four ‘show caves’ around Castleton, boasting the largest cave entrance in Britain.
