TRIUMPH OF THE MONTH
Julie Concannon, 49, was diagnosed with thyroid cancer just after beginning her 1000 miles, and underwent an operation to remove it in February. Her doctor prescribed walking to recover, and now….
… and even better: “I am officially (for now) cancer free! I’m feeling really well and stronger week by week. The walking has been so important not only to regain my strength but also to calm my head. It’s not everyday you get such a scary diagnosis. Being in tune with nature and just moving and feeling your body and mind moving back in alignment really helps, and I’ve been overwhelmed by the support in the #walk1000miles group. The walking was my way to kick the cancer in the butt, but comments mean so much more to me than the miles did!”
