‘It’s how the world should be’

-

Inspired by a group post about a fabled Spanish pilgrimage, 55-year-old Alan Francis has left to walk half his 1000 miles in one go... “I thought that it would be a great thing to do, if only I could take the time off work. But a large and painful IT project I was working on was coming to an end and I began to think ‘Why wait?’. I’d had enough of work and needed a different direction in life, and thought I might find the answer while walking The Way. So I decided to retire at 54, handed my notice in and started planning my Camino de Santiago trek. Anyone who knows me knows I’m a quiet person, so I expected to be alone especially in the beginning. But on my first day I met Rodrigo from Brazil and Dennis from Germany. Three days in we’re still walking together, helping each other out and getting to know one another. Not at all what I expected. And everyone on the Camino is very friendly. It’s how the world should be.” You can read about Alan’s Camino trek at www. alanscamino.wordpress.com
