Shenavall, Fisherfield Forest
The stone cottage of Shenavall is one of the best-loved bothies in Scotland, where the only lights in sight will be the bright, bright stars above. For many it’s a launch pad for An Teallach which spikes up pretty much in the bothy’s back garden, or an 18-mile round of half a dozen Munros known as the Fisherfield Six (although one has recently been demoted to a Corbett) out the front. It’s a wonderful place just to hang out, though, and absorb the peace and beauty of an area also known as the Great Wilderness. There’s a good route in through the Dundonnell Forest, taking track and rough paths along the hem of An Teallach, with an alternative return route along the glen and back across the moors.
WALK HERE: From Corrie Hallie layby on A832 (grid ref NH114850) take track south-west. At fork after wood, go right on path over shoulder of Sail Liath to bothy. Turn south-east by river, to pick up track looping north back to start. 11 miles.
