Dee Side Bistro do a very good breakfast and reasonably priced lunches; The Corn Mill does a great Sunday lunch (the Kaiser Chiefs popped in for one recently). Ponderosa Café and the Abbey Farm Bistro are also good places to eat. For walks, a 13-mile circuit from Llangollen to World’s End taking in Castell Dinas Bran stands out. Stephen Coyle

Having moved from Lincolnshire to beautiful Shropshire, we’ve visited Llangollen several times. We can recommend The Corn Mill pub by the lovely River Dee and the Carriage Tea Rooms at Llangollen Station. If you happen to have your two-year-old grandson with you, Thomas the Tank Engine may be only a few steps away. Ruth Sandall

Go up to Dinas Bran Castle: you will get the most beautiful views, and it’s where I got engaged! Hannah Matthews
