Protecting the peregrine

This incredible raptor needs protection and the South West Peregrine (SWP) group studies the bird’s numbers and behaviour across Devon and Cornwall, while bringing its plight – and ongoing persecution – to the public’s attention. It was founded by renowned peregrine expert R.B. Treleaven as a group within the Hawk and Owl Trust, and is now run by lifelong enthusiast Roger Finnamore. This small band of dedicated specialists monitor at least sixty nest sites in their area. Chicks are ringed while still in the nest and this information is all collated by the British Trust for Ornithology (BTO).
