It’s my birthday this month and what I’d really, really like is a complete set of all 403 OS Explorer maps! I love the idea of having all of Britain on my bookshelf (digital just isn’t the same). Wouldn’t it be fascinating to pull a map out at random, spread it on the table and journey into the carefully-drawn world of wherever? To travel the contours and paths of a place miles from where I’m sat? Then of course I’d want to tuck the map in my pack and walk it for real. Doing one route on every Explorer in Britain would be the ultimate ticklist – ‘bagging’ every map as it were. Imagine what you’d see: places you’ve never heard of or thought to go, every kind of scenery and beauty the nation has to offer. I think I might try this...

Note to self: Keep hoping (or start saving) – a full set costs £2,536.08! Might just have to collect them slowly.
