RAB Microlight Alpine

-

RRP: £190 Target price: £150 Here’s a super-lightweight jacket made for mountains. It’s happiest when you’re scrambling along an exposed ridge and dipping up and down on a horseshoe round. It’s stuffed with ethically-sourced goose down, and Rab have partnered with Nikwax to make the 750 fill power combo as water resistant as possible. And it’s wrapped in the versatile Pertex Quantum face fabric, which holds off light showers and keeps out icy winds. The fit is slim and dynamic and there’s fantastic freedom of movement in the arms and shoulders to allow for tricky moves over rocky terrain. And although you wouldn’t want to wear it for a prolonged, steep climb (when it would get too hot for comfort), it’s breathable enough to wear for brisk walking over undulating ground. I was pleased to find a strong wire-peaked hood, which is excellent for shielding the eyes from wind-blown rain and snow, but unfortunately the draw cord only pulls around the peak, and not around the sides. That means it doesn’t move with your head and you’re left rather blinkered during blustery showers. RB
