MY FAVOURITE VIEW

Places that took away the breath of some expert travellers

-

Last year we walked 2000km across Europe, and our best moment was reaching the top of the Great St Bernard Pass in the Alps. It was only halfway for us, but it was as if the toughest test had been completed. We knew then we’d make it to the end: Rome. Luke Smith & Elena Sleet, Headwater Waking up on top of Mount Sinai and watching dawn break over the bare mountains. Bryn Thomas, Trailblazer Guides

It has to be New Zealand, where our walk starts with a water taxi into the Abel

Tasman National Park then you spend the day walking between Bark Bay and Anchorage on the Abel Tasman Coastal Track. Sarah Davis, HF Holidays I will never forget the view from Gokyo Ri in the Everest region of Nepal. It truly is one of the finest mountain vistas in the Himalaya. You are surrounded by dozens of snow-capped peaks, including Everest, while the valley below completes the picture, with impossibly blue lakes and the longest glacier in Nepal. Gordon Steer, World Expeditions

Seeing the sunrise from Mount

Rinjani in Indonesia. After setting off at 2am and a long slog up the scree slopes I was rewarded with seeing the shadow of Rinjani creating a pyramid shape on the landscape below, framed by vast skies of orange and pinks as the sun rose. Truly breathtaking. Chloe Oliver, Exodus Travels

Mount Vojak, Croatia. The view from the top stretches along the Adriatic coast to the islands of Krk, Losinj and Cres and to the peaks of Slovenia’s Julian Alps. Stunning! Charlotte McCutcheon, Whereabouts Holidays Greenland, hiking late evening by the light of the moon reflecting on the icebergs. Alex Greenwood, KE Adventure Travel Cloud inversion at sunrise from Rifugio Pradidali in the spectacular Dolomites in Italy. A mountain paradise. Joe Williams, Cicerone Guides
