SHERPA
Asaar
RRP: £160 Target price: £128 Weight: 184g
Here’s proof you can bring in a fully waterproof jacket (not just water-resistant) for the packed-down weight of a largeish pear. The Asaar is packed with almost all the features you’d expect of a meatier waterproof: properly stormflapped zipped pockets, adjustable hem, Velcro cuffs and a snug hood (although its peak isn’t wired, which is a shame), yet it takes up next to no space in your rucksack and is fairy-light when worn. Its hydrostatic head (waterproof rating) is 20,000mm which is okay but not as substantial as a more mainstream waterproof – this is better suited to changeable conditions and sudden showers than all-day rain. The chunky zip feels a little vulnerable to water ingress (though its edges are taped) and it’s a bit rustly, but all in all this is terrific value for a well-made light waterproof. sherpaadventuregear.co.uk VERDICT:
