With their slogan ‘further, faster’ Montane really specialise in lightweight kit, and the Trailblazer is a great value waistpack for shorter walks where you don’t need much stuff. Its main compartment will hold any of the mid layers from this test plus two snack bars and a hat, with a slim purse/wallet in the subcompartment, while the two belt pockets can hold a large smartphone and some keys. You can even sling a pair of Z-folding poles or a soggy jacket in the bungee cord. It only lacks space for a bottle and somewhere to tuck the excess strapping on the waist belt. Not the most stable though; it tends to wander a bit as you move. montane.co.uk
