Among the lightest (and brightest) shoes on test, they’re also, by a significant margin, the cheapest. Walking shoes often borrow from running shoes and these do more than any others here with a flexible sole and distinctly sporty styling on those softshell uppers. This makes them well suited for warm weather walking or overseas trails and the proprietary IsoDry waterproof membrane is resolute enough to easily defy splashes and stream crossings. Though light, they’re robust enough to offer decent protection, with rubber reinforcement and thicker, tougher fabric at the heel and toe. I kicked my way dreamily along the Norfolk coast, crossing pebbly shore and climbing up and down uneven cliff staircases without a single stubbed toe. Because they don’t come in half sizes, as a size 6½ I went for a 7 so they felt quite loose around the heel and ever so slightly clown-like in thin socks. This was less noticeable in thicker walking socks though and afforded welcome wiggle room in the toe box. Overall, they are fantastic value summer shoes, especially if you don’t need a half size. SR
