Love wild swimming?

Then you’ll love where komoot can take you…

-

komoot’s Community Highlights feature puts the nation’s greatest swimming holes (and hundreds of other secret spots) at your fingertips…

DEFINE ‘MAGIC MOMENT’. Dipping your toes (and hopefully the rest of you, too) into a cool, sparkling lake or river, in the middle of nowhere, on a warm, calm day.

On the right day, wild swimming is a really special experience. As outdoor blogger and writer Siân Anna Lewis says: “When I want to feel connected to nature near me, I often look for water. If you want to reconnect with the elements and feel immersed in the outdoors, seek out your local wild swimming spot, lido or marine lake.”

From wild plunge pools fed by Lake District waterfalls and deep inlets on the Pembrokeshire coast, to deserted Cornish quarries and riverbanks lined with wildflowers in the Somerset countryside, the UK is brimming with swimming spots where you can cool down, tune in to nature and… relax.

“Packing a towel and a swimsuit and going on a little adventure is my idea of the perfect summer’s day in the UK,” says Siân, adding that the walk is very much part of the adventure.

The real art lies in finding the best locations to do it. There are ingredients to the perfect swimming hole: a safe spot, shelved edges, soft stone or sand underfoot, the perfect view. It needs to be accessible but not crowded. And what you

need is a community of friends to tell you the best places. That’s where komoot comes in.

komoot’s route planner makes it easier than ever to explore the outdoors, with sport-specific routing and detailed elevation profiles and surface type details. It even estimates the length of time your walk will take, depending on your fitness level. And thanks to its huge bank of shared places of interests, you’ll never be short of a great wild swimming suggestion.

Siân herself uses komoot to plan walks centred around swimming holes, and afterwards she shares her favourite spots and tips so other komoot users can plan their own outings using her insider knowledge. And she isn’t the only one sharing her insider knowledge on komoot. A quick glance at the map reveals red dots (known as Community Highlights) scattered across it. These range from wild swimming hotspots and great viewpoints to much-loved tearooms and coffee stops.

Once you’ve planned your route on komoot, you can easily adjust it to include these Community Highlights. Alternatively, follow other people who live or explore near you, and check out which routes they’ve been enjoying.

And once you set off, komoot’s offline voice navigation ensures you make it to your desired swimming spot and back again.

Then it’s time to save your route as a Tour, add your photos and share your tips with the rest of the community, making it easier for everyone to explore more of the great outdoors.
