Mannix

This is a dynamic fleece designed with movement in mind. It’s a short fit but it offers a great range of movement in the arms, meaning there was never any feeling of restriction when clambering up Welsh mountainsides. That sense of freedom is helped by the addition of stretch panels at the side of the torso, which flex with you at every turn. It isn’t all pragmatic performance though – it has the classic fleece snugness, and a hood as well for when you really want to snuggle up in it. It balances breathability and warmth – not so thin and porous that you feel exposed, but not so thick that you overheat at the first hint of a contour. It isn’t particularly windproof and has no water repellency, so this is definitely a mid layer that works best when paired with a waterproof on changeable days. The tailoring and restrained design make it sleeker and more stylish than most fleeces, and the fact it’s made out of recycled materials is a welcome boon. There aren’t many bells and whistles here, but the Mannix is a thoughtfully designed piece of kit that could become a trusty part of your walking wardrobe all year round.
