THE FUTURE OF WALKING?

Share your vision of what walking in Britain might look like in 2040.

AT THE MOMENT it might seem a little hard to look to the future, but that’s not stopping the Museum of Walking. This brilliant online repository of wisdom and insight (with guided walks when allowable) is run by avid walker Andrew Stuck (left), who loves to chat to people with an interesting point of view on what we do, and interview them for the museum’s podcast, Talking Walking.

Andrew’s latest project is 20x20 Visions, in which he is inviting walkers to share their visions of what walking will look like in 20 years’ time.

Will more people be walking in 2040? Will our environment be in better or worse shape? What kinds of technology might be helping us?

Might Britain have more national parks and AONBs, and where might they be? Will our cities be greener places?

These are just some of the big questions he hopes contributors might provide answers to. Andrew will then turn the responses into a podcast on Talking Walking.

“Seven years ago, we invited people who are passionate about taking a walk to give their predictions for walking in the next five years,” explains Andrew. “I felt this year warranted a reprise, but this time looking even further ahead. It would be lovely to hear from Country Walking readers, because they will all have their own unique perspectives on walking and what how it might change over the next two decades.”

You can record your vision on your smartphone (max five minutes) and email the file to talkingwalking@museumofwalking.org. uk. You can find the full entry details at talkingwalking.net/20x20-visions.
