The hills that have taunted the #walk1000miles massive…

❝We have turned back so many times, especially in the Mournes. If it’s like pea soup or too treacherous to climb, there’s no point in becoming disorientated or putting yourself and others in danger. This pic (right) was taken at the second attempt at Doan and the views were more than worth it!❞ Janine Ramsey

❝Mine’s Ingleborough too! We attempted it four times from Clapham; we always got to Gaping Gill before the weather turned bad. Eventually we did it via Humphrey Bottom and then Ingleton. ❞ Leanne Woodall

❝In 2019 we tried to do Moel Hebog from Beddgelert. We got a fair way up with fantastic views when we heard a rumble of thunder. I persuaded my partner to reluctantly abandon the quest. It did turn out to be the right decision as just as we made it back to Beddgelert the thunderstorm broke directly overhead. We rebooked for 2020 for a rematch but Covid had other ideas. We have rebooked another rematch for July this year. I’ll let you know. ❞ Deborah Williams

❝Helvellyn. Me and my hubby Ian attempted it 2019. We got three quarters of the way up but it started to rain heavily. It turned into icy hailstones so we had to turn back. We were gutted. It's definitely on our to-do list for later this year.❞

❝I never finished the West Highland Way

(over Devil's Staircase) because my brother and I got snowed in at Glen Coe. Definitely going back someday. ❞ Amanda Phillips

❝Roseberry Topping. Having walked the Coast to Coast a few years ago, it was there in the distance for at least three days, but as the path doesn’t go up it, I never climbed it! I keep meaning to go back but haven’t made it yet. One day.❞

Paula Rhodes

❝We climbed Ingleborough in a most irresponsible manner with our son in 1982. It was utter madness, but we learned a thing or two. And it must have done the lad some good, because he now writes for the world’s finest walking magazine.❞
