HIGH CUP NICK & MURTON PIKE, Route 27, October 2021
I received a Country Walking subscription as a birthday present and, seeing this route, I was finally inspired to walk up to High Cup Nick – a location that I’ve been telling myself, for years, that I needed to see. On an early morning in mid-September, I made my way up there and found myself walking in the clouds.
I was so grateful for my OS maps app as I could hardly see where I was going! Thankfully, the clouds lifted slightly to reveal a fantastic view. Well worth the effort to get up there and a great place for a picnic! Mark Stephenson, Newton Aycliffe, County Durham
BUDE, Route 1, June 2020
As with two other UK holidays since lockdown eased, your mag has been our guide on some lovely walks. Here’s my wife Karen and our wheaten terrier Boris at the end of the Bude route. steady walk with great coastal views on the return leg. Ian Pearson, by email
BOSSINGTON & PORLOCK, Route 1, February 2021
Here’s my daughter Emily enjoying our walk this summer. The views of Porlock Bay were fantastic and the two famous pubs (Top Ship and Bottom Ship) provided excellent rest stops! A top walk. Ian Waines, by email
CALLANDER CRAIG, Route 25, April 2020
We enjoyed this one when on holiday in the area. The walk up to the summit was quite tough as we approached the crags. However the views across to the mountains and lochs from the Jubilee Cairn were absolutely stunning and made our efforts worthwhile. We were rewarded with some bonus sunshine! Moira Murray, St Boswells, Scottish Borders
KING’S STAG & LYDLINCH, Route 2, Spring 2021
We tried to do this walk in March but had to abandon it after 2 miles as the track had become an impassable river! Happy to say we completed it in August, although we should have taken secateurs as it was very overgrown in places. Please put up some more signs on these paths Dorset Council! Here’s my husband and dog back at Lydlinch church. Ann Tooke-Kirby, Weymouth, Dorset
SELWORTHY BEACON & BOSSINGTON HILL, Route 3,
July 2021 This route started from the doorstep of our holiday accommodation so it had to done. After a bit of a climb from Selworthy we had lovely open views and met some Exmoor ponies. Easy woodland paths led back down into Allerford. Don’t miss a visit to the village green at Selworthy and a delicious cream tea. Samantha Davey, by email
