A STANCE FOR ALL SEASONS

Oliver Edwards, photographer My favourite shot is of a wild pony at sunset overlooking Worm’s Head with a storm brewing in the background (this issue, page 59). The Gower is close to my heart – my wife is from over the estuary in Pembrey so I visit in all seasons. In winter, it’s very dramatic, as you can see storms coming in for miles from the central ridge. The wild horses are small but tough animals, living through these tough conditions year round with little shelter. This image sums up many aspects of how I see the area – beautiful coast with Worm’s Head in the background, a storm approaching, one or two houses sparsely populating the hill and a wild pony confidently looking straight to camera in its element.
