PEAK HAPPINESS

Carys Matthews, digital editor

-

The wild landscape of the Peak District keeps drawing me back. Last year on a blustery day, I walked to the top of Mam Tor on a Great Day Out (December 2016, issue 119). As the rain started to lash down, I couldn’t have felt happier as I looked down the valley towards Castleton. I particularly love visiting in the late autumn and winter months when the High Peak moors take on a dramatic bleak beauty and the trails are blissfully quiet. At this time of year, the chocolate-shop pretty villages are full of twinkling lights and cosy pubs with roaring fires. A perfect end to a day on the hills.
