Five kilometres and 500 years separate Weobley from Whiteford Lighthouse, a cast-iron constructi­on standing at the northern tip of the peninsula. The beaming warning light is long gone, but what’s left is just as striking – a manmade beacon in a sea of natural beauty. On paper, a metal lighthouse doesn’t seem appealing, but every time I visit I’m fascinated by its appearance in the shallow estuary.
