We’re heading west now, back towards Swansea, and on your way to our next location, pop into Pennard Castle. The Normans who built the stone constructi­on about 800 years ago certainly picked a good view. Like modern-day visitors, they would have got a huge amount of pleasure from the vista over Three Cliffs Bay, but didn’t factor in the encroachin­g sand dunes that eventually forced them to abandon the site. While coastal planning may not have been high on the list of priorities then, it certainly was for following generation­s five miles
