Dusk falls on Godrevy Lighthouse midway between St Ives and Portreath on Cornwall’s pitted north coast. The 26m-high octagonal tower, thought to be the inspiratio­n for Virginia Woolf’s novel To the Lighthouse, was built in 1859 on the slanted rock of Godrevy Island to warn marine voyagers of the perilous Stones reef.
