WASPISH CHARM

One of six variants of bee orchid, the wasp orchid distinguis­hes itself by producing flowers that resemble wasps, in a bid to attract the stripy pollinator­s to its petals. This rare plant is scarce across Britain but grows in a few places in the West Country. Here it stands tall on Cleeve Hill near Cheltenham, Gloucester­shire.
