ON top of its plans for massive growth at its Whitley site in Coventry, Jaguar Land Rover has submitted plans to build a new logistics hub on land near to its Solihull plant.

The one million square foot site will be used by the Coventry car maker to receive and store parts to supply its Lode Lane factory.

No details have been released on how many jobs will be created.

The proposals include a new road layout at Damson Parkway in Solihull, including a roundabout and a junction controlled by traffic lights.

A cycle lane and footpath would also be provided as well as 1,150-space car park and places for 90 bikes.

The proposed site neighbours Solihull Moors Football Club, Elmdon Park, Old Damson Lane and the A45.

A design statement supporting the application said: “Jaguar Land Rover is a strong, healthy and vibrant company, well-positioned, strategically and financially, for future growth.

“Delivery of the logistics operations centre would contribute to ensuring that Jaguar Land Rover increases its efficiencies, capabilities and overall business resilience.” The submission of the plans follows a year of major investment across Jaguar Land Rover’s operations in the region. The company announced the creation of 250 jobs across its Special Operations division in Coventry as part of a £30million investment in July. In October the car maker submitted a planning application to create a huge new development facility at its global headquarters in Whitley. The new 325,000 sq ft development, part of which would be sited on land to the south of the Whitley site, would serve as a state-of-the art facility to design and engineer the means of powering the Jaguar Land Rover vehicles of the future. The proposed facility includes office, design, engineering and vehicle testing space and car parking. There will also be a welcome centre, a fuel farm building, an electricity substation and alterations to the existing mileage accumulation facility. Since then Jaguar Land Rover CEO Ralf Speth unveiled the car maker’s electric future with plans to build the next generation of electric cars and their batteries in Coventry - generating thousands of jobs and creating the UK’s first ‘smart city’. Last month Jaguar Land Rover revealed it would split production of the new Land Rover Discovery across its Solihull and Slovakia factories.

Jaguar Land Rover is a strong, healthy and vibrant company, wellpositioned, for future growth.
