City supporters group will be shut down at end of the year

A SUPPORTERS group formed to provide Coventry City fans with direct access to the board is to be shut down.

The Telegraph understands the CCFC Supporters Consultative Group (SCG), which has members from several strands of the Sky Blue Army including the Sky Blue Trust, is to be wound up at the end the year.

The SCG has been troubled by infighting, rows over alleged changes to minutes, resignations and accusations of bullying. Elections had been due to take place shortly to find a new chairman for the group.

It is understood the club will asking the EFL for guidance on future plans for fan consultation after the closure of the SCG.

The SCG has come under fire from some fans in recent times over concerns it does not accurately reflect the concerns of supporters.

Protest group ‘Fighting The Jimmy Hill Way’ had suggested previous SCG minutes, and questions submitted to club management, had been ‘censored’. Those claims were strongly denied by SCG chairman Jonathan Strange.

The Sky Blue Trust labelled the SCG as “ineffective” following the last stormy meeting. In a statement, the fan trust said: “The SCG as it stands is not fit for purpose. We therefore urge those responsible to embrace the need for change, to offer proper representation and to set aside egos and personal aspiration in putting supporters first.”

A large portion of the latest meeting minutes are dominated by bitter arguments and criticism of various fans’ groups and organisations.

But the group also went on to discuss issues including why season tickets had been confiscated and the availability of funds to any new manger in January.

Coventry City have been contacted for a comment.
