Police in call for teens to join as cadets and spend time on the beat

POLICE officers are looking for young people to join them as cadets.

A two year programme is being offered to 16-year-olds giving them the opportunit­y to join the officers on their rounds in North Warwickshi­re.

Pc Lee Marston, North Warwickshi­re youth engagement officer and principle police cadet leader for North Warwickshi­re police cadets is looking for 14 Year 11 students to join the programme.

He said: “We’re looking for anybody who has got an interest in policing, they don’t necessaril­y have to want to work for the police, it’s a great opportunit­y for personal developmen­t and to give them more life skills.

“They have the chance to go out with PCSOs and take part in our open days.

“The opportunit­ies are really varied.”

Informatio­n evenings are being held to give interested young people and their parents the chance to find out more.

One is being held at Rugby College on February 8 between 7pm and 7.40pm or between 7.50pm and 8.30pm and other is at Coleshill Fire Station on February 18 between 10am and 10.40 or between 10.50am and 11.30am.

Pc Marston added: “It’s an opportunit­y for parents to come along, it’s quite informal.”

Applicatio­ns must be submitted by February 28. To apply, you must be in Year 11 and be living in North Warwickshi­re, with parent or guardian permission.
