Taylor follows in famous footsteps

-

A TALENTED 15-year-old rugby player is battling the odds to achieve his dream of playing for Wasps.

Caludon Castle’s Taylor Moseley has gone through to the third stage of the club’s development player pathway trials, despite his school struggling to regularly raise an under-15 team in the newty-established development league for football-playing schools.

Moseley (left) has filled the gap by turning out for Barkers Butts, whose coach Scott English joined forces with Caludon PE teacher Paul Moffatt to nominate the young front rower for the trials.

The Meriden-based club has produced a string of top-class players in the past, including World Cup winner Neil Back plus internationals Tom Wood, Jim Hamilton, Danny Grewcock and Rob Hardwick, who like Moseley was a tight head prop. And with their current under 15 team unbeaten in 11 starts this season, it seems the club’s latest crop of potential stars are well on their way.

Moseley now faces competition from 24 other young hopefuls for a place in the Wasps squad. This sits four school years below the club’s senior academy structure which includes the likes of Jack Willis, Tom Howe and Owain James who have performed so well this season in the Anglo-Welsh Cup and on loan at Coventry.

In addition to appearing for Caludon, whose last rugby international was Leicester and Gloucester No.8 Adam Balding, and his club side, Moseley has been part of Warwickshire squads during this and last season, and is clearly a name to keep an eye on.
