Mystery over Trophy date
CONFUSION reigned yesterday about when Coventry City will take on Wycombe Wanderers for the right to compete for a £100,000 windfall in the Checkatrade Trophy final at Wembley.
The Chairboys Tweeted and announced on their website that the Ricoh Arena semi-final will be played in the week commencing February 6 and that their League Two clash with Colchester United had consequently been postponed.
But Coventry are still working on the assumption that the lastfour ties are scheduled for the week beginning February 20, as stated on the EFL website. well Scunthorpe are going, understandably he has had to wait his turn but we feel he is ideal to help us in the current position we are in.
“I think he is a player who will fit perfectly into the style of play we are implementing. With the injury to Sam Hoskins, we needed someone who can operate in a similar role and Luke does that well.”
Tony Mowbray recruited Williams from his former club Middlesbrough in February 2015 but he only logged four starts and one substitute appearance before returning to The Riverside in March.
He was loaned out to Peterborough at the end of the 2014/15 season, going on as a substitute in Posh’s 1-0 home defeat against the Sky Blues before starting in a 2-0 defeat at Scunthorpe.
He signed a full-time contract for The Iron that summer and was a first-team regular until suffering an ankle injury in August which sidelined him for three months.
His last outing was in a Checkatrade Trophy tie at Oxford on January 10 when his early penalty was eclipsed as the home side cantered to a 4-1 win on the back of a Kane Hemmings hat-trick.
