NEW TENANT WANTED FOR VILLAGE INN THAT CLOSED SUDDENLY AT CHRISTMAS

A PUB which suddenly closed leaving staff unpaid and customers with lost deposits is set to reopen.

The brewery which owns The Bull in Witherley, near Atherstone, has revealed it is looking for a new tenant following Christmas’s unexpected closure.

Customers who had paid deposits for festive meals were left in limbo after the closure.

Staff also revealed that they had not been paid and had been working to try and keep the pub open for the sake of customers, until it became impossible.

After the pub closed its doors, Enterprise Inns said it was “working hard to resolves the issues at the Bull Inn”.

Now, the brewery is searching for a budding new pub landlord, who can bring The Bull back to life.

A spokesperson from EI publican partnerships said: “We would like to reassure members of the community that we value The Bull’s standing as a much loved local pub and are currently searching for a permanent tenant to take it on.

“This would be a great opportunity for an experienced or new operator keen to run a food-led business.”

The brewery estimates that the pub has the potential to have a turnover of £833,00 per year, and is up for a guide rent of £55,000 per year.

It has space for dining, drinking and also has a separate function room, a large beer garden which has space for more than 200 people and five letting bedrooms.

In a statement on the brewery’s website, the regional manager of Enterprise said: “The Bull Inn is a great pub in a prominent position on the roadside, complete with a large beer garden and two car parks.

“With multiple revenue streams, including the bar, restaurant and letting accommodation, the pub requires an experienced publican who can not only manage, but also maximise the opportunities presented onsite. “The Bull Inn has historically had a fantastic reputation with both locals and those attracted by its food offer. “Given its location and facilities, I have no doubt that this pub will once again be great.” Two other pubs in the Atherstone area, also owned by the same brewery, are now being put up for sale after sudden closures. The White Lion in Station Street, which has housed the bar called Sweeties until it also closed suddenly recently, and The Boot in Grendon are now on the open market.

A spokesperson from EI publican partnerships added: “As part of our on-going business, we do from time to time identify pubs that may no longer have a long-term future in our estate.

“After careful consideration of our options, the decision has been made to sell the freehold of the White Lion and The Boot and both pubs are currently being openly marketed.”
